Let's Recap

It's Saturday. But if feels like Friday because I'm working. This is the joy of working in payroll, when there is a holiday, we gotta work the weekend. People gotta be paid.

This week seemed so outta place in blog world, I made posts and felt like I didn't know what day I was posting. Just kinda threw some things up. So in case you missed it, here's a little recap.

  • I wrote to Santa on Wednesday. Sorta. I posted a little Xmas wish list

  • On Thanksgiving, I put up the post that matters the most this week. Who I'm thankful for.

  • And last night, totally unexpected, I shared a super simple "recipe" (if you can even call it that) for a Fireball Hot Toddy

I hope you all had an awesome holiday! Mine was highly nontraditional for us, but that'll be up on Monday. Have a fun filled fucking weekend!

Fireball Hot Toddy

I was picking out a few different teas today and grabbed one of my favorites; Cinnamon Apple Spice. Excitement immediately came over me when I thought "I COULD TOTALLY MAKE A HOT TODDY WITH FIREBALL!" If you're not familiar with a hot toddy, it's basically tea, whiskey, honey and lemon. I've had them from a bar with some minty liqueur added to it, so yummy! This one I made was super simple, tea and Fireball! Boom. Enjoy!

Thankful.

Oh what's this? Just the stereotypical Thanksgiving day post.

I'm gonna keep it simple with this one. Although I have a lot to be thankful for; life, a job, a home, food, this blog and all of you! I just want to give a simple focus to the three people that keep my heart alive. My boyfriend and my siblings.

The boyfriend. Robert, Rob, Robbie... whatever you choose to call him, he is the mate that has met my soul. Because of him, I'm a better me. And becoming a better me has not been easy. I'm a maniac and he still sticks around and still picks me up when I'm down and still loves me every.single.day. No matter how nutso I can get sometimes. I'm so thankful he turned out to be everything I had wished for. I loved him when I was 13 and I'll love him forever.

The sister. Erica. This little angel, oh how I miss her so much. My little mini-me. From the moment she was born, and being the first to hold her (even before her parents!) I knew that she would end up being my world. Before I moved away, we were inseparable. Everyone thought she was my daughter. This kid has brought so much joy and laughter into my heart. I don't even know what my life would have been like if she was never born. Although she was just a kid, she helped me shine in some of my darkest moments. I miss her so much and wish I was back home in MA with her today so I could do her makeup and we could stuff our faces together and then pass out on the couch like the old days.

The brother. Kevin. The person who has known me the longest and has had my back the most. Being only 4 1/2 years younger than him, I looked up to him so much. Followed him around like a puppy dog. And played every game he wanted to play, even if it was WWF and he body slammed me onto the bed like Hulk Hogan and I'd bounce and hit the wall. It was so much fun, even when I'd cry haha. We went through a lot of shit growing up and we only had each other. He's always been everything you want a big brother to be, protective. Sometimes maybe a little too much (you don't have to threaten to murder every guy I talk to bro!) haha! Although we've had some downs (like anyone does), we always come out on top. He is the only big brother I have ever had, and the only one I've ever needed.

I love these people and I'm beyond thankful for everything they give me.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Dear Santa,

I've seen lots of posts of Xmas lists. I made a Pinterest board of my list so that I could give it to the boyfriend. Check back on that in a month and I'll let you know how well he does with it. Do you wanna know what he wants?  A tool. For work. I was like, "that's not fun!" He said "it's fun to me! It will help me at work!" .... Ok. (boringggggg). I usually don't care about things much, I just like to have food. But this is the time of year that I feel like I can be like GIMME ALL THE THINGS.

I never thought I'd like any MK bags. But we saw this in the store the other day and I fell.in.love.

Obsessed with the color combo. Plus they're the small ones made for petite faces. AKA my face.

I have the Spiked Lita's and they're my favorite shoes I've ever owned. JC comes out with like 297538 styles of the Lita. But when I saw the unicorn one, I was like ok wait. I. Need. Those. the end. You might be wondering what I'd wear them with or where I would wear them... I live in LA... so it doesn't matter.

I like it and I want it. That simple.

Due to the price, I'd totally settle for the Sonia Kashuk "Lavish Luxe" 10 pc Brush Set

I actually only have Basics and I'm not that fond of it. I don't completely love whats in 2. I'll take Naked 1 and 3.

Kind of a greedy little post to make on THANKSGIVING eve. In all fairness, everyone wants expensive shit on Christmas. Doesn't matter when it's posted/mentioned.

Chicken Noms

I'm pretty sure this is the third week in a row that I'm posting a recipe. I'd make that a trend but I'm not good with that kind of commitment... or with recipes. On Sunday I threw a whole chicken in a brine bag and let it chill out in the fridge all day. Then let it sit in the oven for awhile with some veggies and came out this...

For the brine I used:
water
salt/pepper
fresh rosemary (a few sprigs)
onion (in large chunks)
garlic cloves (smashed)
olive oil

You can buy brine bags at the grocery store, I like to place it in a big bowl to keep it all sturdy. I put in a couple teaspoons of olive oil. I used a quarter of an onion and chopped in large chunks. I love garlic so I smashed up a lot of cloves and threw those in there with a couple sprigs of rosemary. Tossed in some sprinkles of salt and pepper and filled it with water until the chicken was drowning covered. Tied it all up tight and let it sit in the fridge for about 7 hours. You can brine for however long, once I did it for 24hrs.

When it was time to preheat the oven to 375, I stuck some Kerrygold grass fed butter under the skin on the chickens boobies and covered the little dude in olive oil. I made a little rub using:

salt
pepper
paprika
thyme
parsley
garlic powder
21 Seasonings from Trader Joes

Mixed it all together and rubbed it all over the chicken. Then I chopped up a bunch of veggies.

2 zucchinis
2 large carrots
1 very large sweet potato
4 small red potatoes
lots of smashed garlic cloves

We've been on Paleo for a few weeks and have been enjoying the shit out of sweet potatoes, since they are allowed. I guess because they're not really a potato. But all the others seem to be under a big debate. I've read they are not allowed at all. I've read that they're ok to have once a week. Who knows!! But we went with the ok and added a few small ones to this dish. Whatever.

All the veggies were covered in olive oil and seasoned with salt/pepper, garlic powder, dried parsley and thyme. Dumped them in a big pan and ready to go in the cooker!!

I cooked it on 375 for about an hour and a half. I started checking on it after an hour and basting the veggies with the juice from the chicken. I had chopped the veggies a little too large, next time I'll go a bit smaller for better cooking.

Noms!

weekend shenans.

I have spent too many hours today (Sunday) cleaning, prepping food, cooking, shopping and complaining. And now I'm sitting here trying to get this post together, with the Patriots on in front of me and all I wanna do is fall on the floor and go ni-nites. Yea, I said that. Ni-nites.

I'm gonna totally blogger fail and make this basically the quickest post of eternity. Although, with it being Thanksgiving week, I'm sure this is how most posts will go all week, and probably for most people. I hope. Please tell me yes so I'm not alone feeling like an asshole.

Friday night, we went to a live podcast taping for Your Moms House. Which is a podcast by husband/wife comedians, Tom Segura and Christina Pazsitzky. We saw them do some stand up a few weeks ago, and I was beyond excited to attend the podcast. Their podcast is MY FAVORITE! Probably mostly due to how much my boyfriend and I can relate to how they are. We got some paleo dinner at Outback before heading over there and I kept the drinking light all night by having gin with soda water and limes.

Saturday we just headed out to basically nowhere. But I managed to find time to car selfie. Of course. We ended up in Culver City to eat at this BBQ place the boyfriend swears is the most delicious food ever. I asked him if the bbq sauce is sweet or smokey because I hate smokey. I failed to ask if the meat was smokey though. This turned out to be the worst food I have had, EVER. It legit tasted like I went up to my neighbor's burned down apartment and started eating the walls. It didn't even taste like food. It just tasted like burnt logs or some shit. Fucking nasty. Thanks boyfriend. Barf. And no, there is no picture because that garbage is not worthy. At least the sunset over downtown LA was decent.

Sunday was, like I said... too much. But it was super nice out, the palms were gorgeous and I paparazzied a beautiful pit bull driving by. So cute!

I hope you all had wonderful weekends and have a marvelous Monday.

Bye!

I Blog Because

This place is like a time capsule.

Sometimes I'll log into my old live journal and die laughing at how ridiculous I was at such a young and confused age. And I'll laugh even harder at how angry I was. You truly wouldn't believe some of the things that are written in there. And sometimes I'll read entries of things that I was clearly very passionate about... but I completely forgot about. It's so awesome to look back on and see how much I've grown. In 10 years, I'll look through the archives of this blog and be able to relive all the things that I spew out now.

Blogging is a beautiful thing. Blogging is pieces of your life stored away forever into one spot, just sitting there, waiting for you to reminisce on someday. Some entries will shine like diamonds and some will mirror things found in a landfill. Hey, they can't all be gems! Whether it be good or bad, I'm really enjoying documenting these days of my life.

This whole blog land is like a second home. A place I come to so I can laugh, eat, cry, and enjoy life... with all of you. A place where I can release my anxieties and my excitements, and there's always someone feeling the same way, going through the same thing, having the same opinions, etc. A place where there's always a friend.

Thank you for reading, thank you for commenting, thank you for celebrating with me and crying with me. You all help to make this blog land enjoyable and addicting!

Some Tips

My shenanigans this weekend were far from existent. I experienced a large slight amount of boredom while the boyfriend had to work on Saturday and then of course, Sunday is football day. This was not an eventful weekend in the world of Ms. Kelly Louise. But my cat cuddled the shit outta me, so that was pretty awesome.

As I was day-dreaming off into Kelly Land where I have my own zip code, during the Lions/Steelers game... I came up with a few ridiculous things to do while bored.

if you don't get it... this is from the movie Taxi Driver

Okay, number 7 makes me kinda look like an asshole. But if you grab some popcorn first, it will be extra enjoyable.

What kinds of things do you do when you're bored?

Have a manic Monday, bye!

Pets Are People Too

A year ago on November 13th, a little fella was added to our family. My baby boy DeNiro was found on the streets at 2 months old and we adopted him from our local shelter. I've actually written his adoption story here before so I'll probably make this a photo dump post because I have basically thousands of pictures of him.

You can read about his adoption story HERE and you can read his likes and dislikes HERE

Now, let's all gawk at this cutie.

He breaks all of his toys. This was his first broken one. Savage.

And his millionth broken toy...

He likes to model....

And lay the charm on the ladies....

He knows that he is adorable.

He does not like unicorns added to the family. He wants to be an only child.

He has officially stolen any and all rubber bracelets. And they are no where to be found...but he doesn't care because he had a blast!

He auditioned for a rap video once. He had all the cash but was missing the video hoes.

He likes to work out and keep that handsome figure. His favorites are Tony Horton, Pilates and Yoga.

He interrupts TV time....

But loves watching The Walking Dead....

He takes over all shoe boxes and packages in the mail. He LOVES that I get so many subscription boxes.

He makes forts every time we have boxes....

and is OBSESSED with bottle caps^^

AND HE GETS SPOILED WITH SASHIMI ON HIS 1ST BIRTHDAY!!!

Dear DeNiro,
Happy 1 year anniversary of being in a real home and not on the streets like a thug or in a shelter, scared and confused. You make this home so much fun with all your silly antics and I don't know how we got by before we had you here. I LOVE YOU!
