When Bloggers Go Bonkers

I'm going to go ahead and assume (I know, awful to do) that at this point, most of the blogging world - specifically the lifestyle crew- has been made aware of a little cray-cray that went down recently. Like to the extent of faking your death. Whaaat!? I know, my jaw is still on the floor. Yes, a blogger went bonkers and faked her death. At the height of the whole situation, many of us were expressing our shock and confusion on Twitter. One thing I remember discussing with a few others is, how can we trust each other in the blog world? I mean, trust is hard enough in life, with anyone! And here we are putting trust into total strangers, people that we've never met and may never meet, voices we have never even heard, just a body on the other end of the line. Who are you?  We come here and pour out so much and connect so much to each other, but like I've mentioned before, we don't really know each other.

A lot people thought they knew this blogger, she was very good at throwing herself out there, a little too fucking much if you ask me. She was very over the top, and some people saw that as passionate (see also: psychotic) so she ended up making a lot of people think she had good intentions in blogland. Designing blogs, setting up meet-ups, excessive promotions of herself and others.... but it was all a lie. She stole money from bloggers, she stole recipes and photos of recipes that other bloggers worked so hard on and posted them as her own, and the list goes on. This is where the trust issue comes in. People trusted her. People praised her on those recipes, people sent her money, people signed up to meet her, people sponsored her.... and then she lost her shit and she vanished. According to her, she died. But no, she just got caught, couldn't handle it, lied, made fake accounts to "help" her lies, and then went to the top of the drama scale and faked her fucking death. Instead of apologizing and refunding people, she deleted EVERYTHING, including her email so no one could contact her about getting refunded. These people trusted her. They trusted a total stranger.

Us bloggers, we are trusting people, clearly because we put ourselves out there for the entire world to see and judge. But where do we draw the line on that? Should I now be questioning if my favorite bloggers are who they say they are? Are some of my readers and blog friends wondering if they can trust me?  What she did was unfair on so many levels. Unfair to her readers, sponsors, family, friends, and all other bloggers. Because aside from stealing from bloggers, she has left a space for us to all start questioning each other. And that's not fair.

So a little PSA to new bloggers: do not steal from bloggers, do not make multiple accounts pretending to be someone you're not, do not fake your death (especially if you have a kid - the internet never forgets), and let's all try to keep the crazy at a minimum.

If you are someone that fell into one of her traps and got screwed, check out Stephanie's post. She is offering free ad space to you!

Edit: Ugh, and she's back again, with another fake account and still claiming she did nothing wrong.
Have a Manic Monday everyone!!

Edit: She's gone again. She came back to admit she started it, still blamed others for all the other accounts and fake death, said nothing about stole recipes. When everyone questioned her about the recipes, she left again.

  3. This was my thought exactly when I saw it all *start* to go down. Don't mess with our ability to be trustworthy because you're crazy. Ugh, it's all just so ridiculous!

  4. Ok I'm clearly so far out of the loop you need to dial a +011 to get me on the phone. I have no idea who or what or how or why but I'm sitting here with my mouth hanging open, giving myself a forehead wrinkle with my expression of shock.

  5. Wait she's back?!?!?!?! What in the cray. You're right though...it does make you wonder about who and what you can trust. Especially when so many bloggers (even myself) have been praised for 'keeping it real'...I mean...what's real?

  13. This whole thing has been utterly ridiculous. I don't get how anyone could ever think stealing from others, making fake accounts, and lying about your own death is ok.

  14. This has been the most entertaining part of my Monday. I can't say it's been a productive workday, but I love a good crazy train!

  19. get ready because it is a whirlwind, at this point it's over 50 pages, I've been following since around the start of it so I've watched all the crazy unfold. while i typically think GOMI is quite a bastard, this one is a gem so make sure you don't skip a thing http://getoffmyinternets.net/forums/lifestyle-bloggers/halfway-to-fearless/

  25. she's not normal. normal people don't do that shit. and what even IS normal?! not her...!

  26. it got so big so fast that there's a lot to catch up on, so set some time aside and some space in your head because it's OUT OF CONTROL, start at the beginning and watch the madness unfold http://getoffmyinternets.net/forums/lifestyle-bloggers/halfway-to-fearless/

  27. Can someone tell me where to look-I don't even know the blogger name. I'm curious...and nosy. I haven't heard anything about it at all.

  28. This is so crazy . . . I just can't believe the lengths people go to, for what? I have some good friends who had their wedding photographer vanish and delete everything and it took them forever to track her down just to get their unedited wedding pictures back. Why are people so insane? Just be normal!

    ReplyDelete
  29. here you go :) it's a lot because it got so crazy so fast but it's worth the entire read. last week it was on like 11 pages and now it's in the 60's! http://getoffmyinternets.net/forums/lifestyle-bloggers/halfway-to-fearless/

I now. It's so tough to keep up with it all.

  33. That is too much crazy. Faking your death is a little over the top!

    ReplyDelete
  34. The whole thing is insane. I think, more than anything, we need to be wary of who we trust when it comes to spending money on them. We need to think: Does this blogger seem a little crazy? How long has this blogger been at it? Do they associate with other bloggers with good reputations? We've got to use that gut feeling.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Oh my gosh, that is insane! I have no idea who the blogger is that you are talking about.. and I am glad. Yikes. Faking your death definitely takes it way too far. Also, stealing money and recipes from other bloggers is low. She sounds like a horrible person.

I'm about to go check GOMI. I wonder if it's nearing 100 pages yet.

    ReplyDelete
  37. you mean all that self promo isn't normal? ...just sayin.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Oh yea, she sponsored me months ago so I checked out her blog and she gave me the immediate impression she was only interested in money and "blog fame". So I didn't pay any more attention to her after that. Plus, despite the fact that she sponsored me she started sending me regular emails to be a blog design client or sponsor her 'again'. Dafuq?!

    ReplyDelete
  39. hahaha that's the shit that drove me nuts! it was so over excited and every.fucking.minute. and in between all that she would slip in a subliminal tweet to the ex or ex's fiance. it was all so obviously crazy! i started to get mad like how can no one else see this? how are these people working with her? i started to question myself like am i just being an asshole? but nope, just saw it a mile away.

    ReplyDelete
  40. so annoying. she bought an ad from me a few weeks ago and i let it just sit there. i even took to twitter and asked "what do you do when you want to reject an ad?" and then the gomi thing started and i emailed her telling (nicely) that i don't want anything to do with her because i don't agree with what she did. and this was when it was only a few pages. and she was like "all i did was try to defend myself but ok" and i left it at that. THE NEXT DAY IS WHEN THE POTATO SALAD RECIPE WENT UP and the rest is history hahahahaha

    ReplyDelete
  41. This is INSANE. I have no idea who she is and I am glad. What is wrong with people?!

    ReplyDelete
  42. She's back?!?! I need to go catch up on the GOMI.

    ReplyDelete
  43. she came back yesterday and then left again when everyone was asking why she stole recipes.

    ReplyDelete
  44. seems like someone didn't get enough attention as a child and she's reaching a bit too far now to make up for it hahaha

    ReplyDelete
  45. Why have I not heard of this? Please email me and fill me in I need to know haha

    ReplyDelete
  46. It's not even that someone who hasn't been around long might be crazy like her. A large percentage of new bloggers quit within the first year, and most don't grow to have a large audience in a few months (and if they say otherwise, I'd be checking out those follow #s and asking for screenshots). I need to know that someone is blogging because they like it and are committed to it before I sponsor them.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I am realizing that! I've been reading the GOMI forum on her and am amazed at all the drama and crazy. She sounds like an AWFUL person, and yes, a horrible role model.

    ReplyDelete
  48. i'm so glad its finally dying out now, i mean, it was great entertainment while it lasted but crazy doesn't need anymore attention than she got. I knew I never liked her, now I know why. :P

    ReplyDelete
  49. omg....I've been out of blogland for a while and that is NUTS! Spencer told me recently about some blogger who actually killed her kid, some sort of poisoning, because she had munchausen by proxy & blogged about her child being sick, when she was actually the one making the kid sick all along.

    ReplyDelete
  50. haha you missed out. you can read it here http://getoffmyinternets.net/forums/lifestyle-bloggers/halfway-to-fearless/ you can stop around the pages in the 70s i think. it pretty much dies down into a bunch of nothing and people just posting GIFs after that. The first like 25 pages are where the gold is though.

    ReplyDelete
  51. i agree, she doesn't need anymore attention. i'm just glad she's gone. i couldn't fucking stand her from the start. like you, i knew something wasn't right with her.

    ReplyDelete
  52. So, I caught up on all of this on GOMI thinking WTF, WHO WOULD DO THAT! Then I realized this chick had contacted me months ago under a diff blog name, "baby weights" and asked me to do a guest post on her blog....I never did. It's just creepy to me that someone legit spends their time trying to make their way into this community and lie about every detail of their life. What is the gain from that? It makes me super leery and I think it actually taught me not to be so trusting in this space, but that doesn't seem quite fair either as i've met some of my closest friends through blogging.

    ReplyDelete
  53. OMG! Pure comedy, this chick is out of control. I wish I knew about this to see it in live action. The worst thing about being sick all the time you miss the crazy.
