Gift Guide - For The Beauty Lover

One of my favorite things at this time of year are sets. Holiday sets are everywhere, even in the liquor store! Ok, whoa let's not get off track. Second sentence in to this post and I'm already talking about booze. Back to beauty. While this post is a gift guide for the beauty product lovers, it's also a shopping guide for the lazy! Maybe that's why I love sets so much, they fuel my laziness.

Do you have any idea how fun it is to shop for someone new to makeup? I wanna get her everything!

Who are you most excited to shop for this year? Have you snatched up any sets for your gift giving?

In case you missed it: I posted two new videos on my YouTube channel. One from Halloween, which was a lot of fun to edit. And one filled with felines! Including my cat DeNiro. Come over and check them out if you haven't already and if you like, please subscribe

November Favorites

Before I get into what products I've been loving, I want to put out a little belated Thanksgiving message. Thank you all for being on this journey with. I started this blog two and a half years ago and expected no one to read it. Ever. I know I'm not very consistent (believe me I wish I was, I try to work with what little time I have available for blogging/youtubing), and I know that because I'm inconsistent I don't have as many readers as I used to. But there are many of you that have been on this ride with me through all my "blog breaks" and "come backs" and I want to especially thank you.

I hope you all had a beautiful Thanksgiving.

Ok enough of the mushy, let's get materialistic! I recently posted a bunch of my everyday essentials and I'm super hooked on most of them so I don't have a whole lot of exciting new favorite things to share. But I skipped October and don't want to ditch out on another month. I told myself in September that I would commit to this monthly faves situation.  Again with the inconsistency Kelly!

November Favorites

Briogeo Roscaro Milk Reparative Leave In Conditioner Spray

I grabbed this one during the Sephora VIB sale and was really excited because of the reviews.  I have never ever found a product that made a difference in my hair after one use. My hair has been super dry and ugly because I'm severely overdue for a trim (aka I haven't been since May) and this spray made my hair so soft. Even my fiance touched my head and was like "oh wow your hair is really soft, what did you do?" (aka 'your hair is usually nasty, whatever you did keep doing it'.) I can only imagine what it will do for my hair once I chop off all these dead ends!{click to purchase at Sephora}

Soap and Glory The Righteous Butter

Katy at LustreLux is always posting about this on snapchat and I couldn't take it anymore, I had to have it! I have the driest nastiest legs in all the land and I have a hard time finding a lotion that keeps my flakes away for more than 2 hours. I've been attached to baby lotion for like 10 years but somedays it's just not enough. Well, thanks to Katy I officially have a new favorite lotion! I love this body butter so much because it does what it says! It smells soooo good and it's affordable. I expected it to be almost 30 dollars but it's only 15! And right now at Ulta, Soap & Glory is buy one get one half off. So if you've been wanting to try this, go now!

Murad Pore Reform Skin Smoothing Polish

Also snatched up at the VIB sale, this is my first full size Murad product. And I feel like I've joined a special club.  It exfoliates so gently and leaves my face so damn soft and not beat up looking like a lot of other exfoliators do. I'm a die hard pure witch hazel user and this has witch hazel in it so it doubles as a toner! Perfect for lazy little me, one less step in my routine. I'll check back in when I finish the bottle but so far I'm loving it.

Bath and Body Works Peppermint Marshmallow Candle

I don't typically go for the "food" candles, they all have this thing about them that gives me a headache. But Robert was into it so I decided to get brave and go for it. It was my least favorite of the bunch I picked and I was not looking forward to lighting it. I lit it and moved on with my life. Some amount of time later my brain was like "go check on the cupcakes in the oven". Da fuq?! I wasn't making cupcakes, the oven wasn't even on. Why was I suddenly craving little baby cakes? It took me a moment and I realized OH MY GOD IT'S THE CANDLE! I immediately tweeted about it and then gushed to Robert that he was right in choosing this candle. Oh wow it's so good.

Why does everything have such long names?  And that's it for November! Just four simple little exciting things. What are some of your current favorite things? Have you tried any of these products? What's your favorite candle scent? I have so many questions!

Let me know in the comments below :)

ps - I really need a new blog design, I'm not down with this small ass font.

ps again - I've been catching up on all my vlog footage and just uploaded a video from Halloween! It's pretty funny, there was some clips that I have no memory of. That's always fun. You can check that out HERE @ HALLOWEEN 2015. And later this week I'm posting a video filled with my cat DeNiro and a bunch of kittens! weeee!

Caramel Fireball Hot Toddy

Last year I very randomly put two of the most basic things together. It was delicious. And I had a blog so I felt like I needed to share. Thousands of repins on Pinterest later, it has been my most popular post ever. Everyday I'm getting notifications that it's been pinned again. When you search "fireball hot toddy" on Pinterest, it's the first pin that comes up. I never really thought anyone would care that I basically dropped some Fireball in my tea and called it a night. But they did! And now I've revamped it. If "revamp" is even a fair word for this simplicity.

"It's so simple how could you ever think of changing it?" you ask. Well, while grocery shopping recently and stocking up on my tea (I have an endless amount of teas, I have a problem, tea is so good, I can't stop) I saw that there was a new apple tea. This one was Caramel Apple Dream. "Ok, but Kelly, you just posted about apples and cinnamon the other day".

Right. But it's Thanksgiving week and they can go together and we can be festive.
Don't judge me. Just drink.

When I saw that new tea I immediately wondered how it would taste as the infamous Fireball Hot Toddy. I'm here to tell you that it tasted .... better. And the crowd goes wild!  I mean, obviously if there would be anything missing from something apple and cinnamon it would be caramel. Right? Right. Previously I used Cinnamon Apple Spice and thought it could never get better.

Here is better.

  • Grab your favorite mug, tea cup, toddy glass, whatever you choose
  • Add the appropriate amount of Fireball (see also: any amount you want)
  • Fill the rest with hot water (or not hot and microwave that ish)
  • Drop a Caramel Apple Dream teabag in and steep for a few minutes
  • Garnish with a piece of apple sprinkled with Nutmeg
  • Sip. Close your eyes. Feel warm. Smile. Eat this yummy apple snack

You could play with this in so many ways. Add a cinnamon stick, drop a slice of orange in there, get creative!  I plan on making a pot of this for Thanksgiving and I think I'm going to add in a little bit of orange to give it a citrus touch.

I'm actually going to go make another one right now so I'll leave you with this - HAVE A WONDERFUL, FULFILLING, YUMMY, AND HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

Quick & Healthy Fall Snack: Spiced Warm Apples

It's finally starting to stay cool in Los Angeles, kinda. So I've been getting more in the mood of "fall" if we can even call it that. I mean, I don't have any scarves or cute sweaters, but I'm feeling the whole fall vibe when it comes to food and drinks. I'll be in Palm Springs for Thanksgiving this week and it's going to be pretty cold, so I already have my Fireball Hot Toddy recipe on mind to stay sipping on boozy warmth for 5 days.

[That recipe is my most popular Pin with thousands of repins but it's getting revamped this week, stay tuned!]

Today I want to share with you one of my favorite warm snacks though! You won't even believe how easy this is and you'll probably go back and do it again after the first bowl. It's really just your good old warm cinnamon apples but instead of using sugar and butter, I ripped away the guilt by using healthy ingredients!  I've been eating this snack for quite awhile, as seen here on my IG, but it's tough to get warm apples down your throat in the 100 degree summers.

warm apple snack

Healthy Spiced Apple Snack

What You Need:
1 Apple
Coconut Oil Spray
1/4 tsp Vanilla Extract
1/8 tsp Nutmeg
1/4 tsp Cinnamon
1/4 tsp Stevia

Of course, you could measure those to your liking. Most of the time I don't even use measurements, I'm all about eyeballing it but I felt like getting fancy this time and using some kitchen utensils.

What You Do:
  • Chop up your apple and place into a microwave safe bowl.
  • Spray with coconut oil
  • Add vanilla extract, nutmeg, cinnamon and stevia
  • Stir
  • Microwave for 1 minute (times vary depending on your watts)
  • Enjoy!

Look, that took a total of what? Like, three minutes tops? Now go light up one of your Bath & Body Works candles that we all love, cuddle up under a blanket with your pet, turn on Bravo and enjoy your noms. Well, that's what I'm doing. DeNiro and I are chilling watching Real Housewives reruns but also flipping back to the Food Network because, hi thanksgiving side dish ideas. Also, hi I'm on vacation from work all week.

Do you like heating up your apples? If so, what is your favorite way to do so?
And do you have any suggestions for Thanksgiving dishes? Nothing too crazy, you can tell by this recipe that I like simplicity ;)

Essentials For Your Everyday Makeup Drawer

As someone that has to be at work before the sun comes up, I've managed to perfect a quick and simple everyday makeup routine and figured out what my everyday essentials are! Once upon a time I made a short video on it but that was months ago and my routine has since changed. Who else has their makeup collection organized but then has that one messy drawer of the everyday stuff? Just me? Bueller?

Nah, I think many of us do...

Over the past few months I've been trying out new stuff and realizing what products qualify as "essentials" for me. I've also kinda cut back on repurchasing high end products that I love and I've been trying to stick more to quality drugstore makeup. There really are so many awesome drugstore products out there!

If you're on a budget and looking for something different, the majority of  my everyday essentials can be found at the drugstore!  Here are some things that I reach for everyday!

Essentials For Your Everyday Makeup Drawer

Dark Circles

I've recently started using the "orange concealer trick" to cover up dark circles. Like I said, I have to be at work really early and quite honestly I never get a good night of rest (the life of sleeping next to a snorer). If you didn't know any better, you could easily mistake me for an extra in The Walking Dead. The NYX Dark Circle Concealer has been really making a difference under my foundation and I highly recommend it.  And ya'll already know that I stand by my ride or die Garnier Dark Circle Roller, I've included that in so many posts.

I usually reach for my all time favorite foundation (when I'm not choosing the L'Oreal Pro Matte or Rimmel 25hr) the Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Poreless!  I used this foundation in my old routine video but I hated it back then (my skin was icky) and now I adore this foundation. Like, ah-dore. I'm on my third bottle of it and even my little sister got it as her first ever foundation!

For concealer it's always a toss up between the Urban Decay Naked Skin and my recent new love, the Maybelline Better Skin. I used MAC Pro Longwear for so long but when the Urban Decay one came out it was hard to choose anything else. This is my first round with the Better Skin and I think it's pretty good.

I've noticed for a lot of people it's hard to find a good setting powder. But I'm in love with a few! For my under eyes (and forehead wrinkles, yikes!) I like to set with the Laura Mercier Translucent Powder. For the rest of my face, I choose between the Rimmel Stay Matte Translucent, the Cover Girl Professional Loose Powder, or the NYX Set It & Don't Fret It which is omg so good.
Oh and for finishing sprays, I'm currently using L'Oreal but my fave is Urban Decay.

To be honest, I'm still trying to find a bomb ass bronzer that I love. So if you have any suggestions, let me know in the comments! Currently I'm just using the Too Face Primed and Poreless Bronzer which is nothing special. Meh.

While I'm totally in love with the Makeup Geek blush in Romance, I stopped using it many months ago when I bought my first ever NYX Blush in Pinched and Milani Luminoso. I've been bouncing between those for awhile. And another one of my all time favorite blushes is the Maybelline Master Hi-Light in Mauve. So good!

If I feel like dropping a little bling on my face, I'll grab my Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal and dust that in the necessary areas. I love Opal so so much!
(PS - I have 2 unopened Champagne Pop's that I wanna give away).

And now thy BROWS!  You know we're all about that brow game. Except, not really for me - I'm pretty simple. If I'm really rushed, I'll run the Maybelline Brow Drama through them and if I have a few minutes to spare, I'll toss in a few flicks of the Anastasia Brow Wiz, aka best thing ever.

Ok so I don't know where, why, how or when I developed this habit but, I completely cover my eyelids in MAC Mylar shadow No matter what. And then I'll typically toss a gray or brown into the crease real quick- currently I'm using the Urban Decay Smoky palette.  Not sure what's up with me and the Mylar. I just started doing it one day a couple months ago, liked it, and haven't stopped. Get on  my level. What.

And to finish the eyes, of course I need mascara. This is another product that I have a hard time finding any that I love. I'm always going back to the CoverGirl Clump Crusher because it's like the only mascara that doesn't flake off into my eyeballs.

This is gonna seem so basic, but I'm not the biggest fan of stuff on my lips. I've been using the It Cosmetics Lip Vitality since March and I don't plan on ever stopping.

I realize that may seem like a lot, but I'm not using every single one of these products at the same time. I just wanted to share the options of each step that I'm currently loving.  I hope you'll fall in love with some of these products too!

6 Things You Can Learn From Ronda Rousey

Even the mighty fall sometimes. But that doesn't mean they stay down. They rise again. We all can.  As a die hard Ronda Rousey fan you can imagine my broken heart watching her legit get beat up by Holly Holm. I froze in disbelief and I cried. Seeing your hero get crushed is like finding out Santa, the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy aren't real, all in the same day.

It was devastating.

But the thing about Ronda Rousey is that she truly is mighty. And she has fallen many times before. A lot of people only see her UFC record and not her whole life. She is a survivor - literally, she was born with the umbilical cord around her neck - life has knocked her down so many times and this is obviously not the end of her. Duh. She will heal and she will be back. And while she's resting up lets focus on how she is such an inspiration for so many people, especially women and young girls with a dream (which means this post could go on for miles... but I'll keep it reasonable.)

Ronda Rousey

Lessons From Ronda Rousey

- It's ok to have fear. "I'd rather expose myself willingly than wait in fear for it to happen against my will." Ronda stands by using fear as a motivator because fear is nothing more than a feeling and it can't actually hurt you. She believes that acting without fear is reckless and acting with fear is courageous.

- Don't give up on yourself and what you want. Although she's an Olympic medalist, she lost her first go at it. She's been homeless and lived out of her car. But she knew she wanted to fight and she was determined for women to be allowed in the UFC. With all the road blocks she hit, she always found a way to keep going forward and she dominated her dreams above and beyond. Hard work pays off.

- You can't please everyone - and that's ok.  "No matter how much you try or what you say, people aren't going to fully understand you or where you're coming from. You just have to get used to being misunderstood".

Ronda Rousey
via google images

A single defeat is not a final defeat.  Like I said, this is not the end of her. She rocked 12 fights in a row, 1 knock out is nothing. The many champs before her had a few losses as well. It's part of the ride.

  • Mike Tyson (50W - 6L)
  • Muhammad Ali (56W - 5L)
  • Manny Pacquiao (57W - 6L)
  • Julio Cesar Chavez (107W - 6L)

And these are all legends that we still praise to this day.  (so if you're one of those "fans" that turned your back on her after one loss, fuck you.)

- Never underestimate the underdog.  Well, I don't think Ronda realized how ready Holly was, I don't think anyone realized that actually. It's no secret that Ronda is incredibly confident, which is amazing because I personally find that to be so incredibly hard. But a clear lesson on this one is to always take at least a bite of that humble pie to stay afloat. There is always someone out there that can be better, even if it's just for one night.

Ronda Rousey
via google images

- Know when to walk away. Ronda has famously said that she wants to retire undefeated (of course, who doesn't?!) but she has also always been very well aware that someone, like Holly, would take her belt someday. A direct quote from the very end of her book - "I look forward to the day where I can give up my belt, and let two other girls fight for it... I will accept that it's their turn to carry the belt and the title and everything it represents.... that day is somewhere on the horizon, but it's not here yet..."

Ronda will find her way back, she always has. There will be a rematch.

This quote has been sitting in my About page for a really long time and it's one of my favorites:

"I think there is an Eddie Murphy quote that I am probably butchering, but he said, Don’t let the compliments make you feel good because then you are going to allow the insults to make you feel bad. So I try not to let how people perceive me be how I perceive myself. I try not to take any of them to heart."
- Ronda Rousey

If you are a Ronda fan, or are looking for inspiration from a story of tragedy to triumph, have days when you want to completely give up and live in a dark hole, need your spirit lifted, to understand that you are not alone - I highly highly recommend reading her book, My Fight/Your Fight. You will turn the last page with an extra pep in your step and your chin a little higher towards the sky. I promise.

Rousey My Fight Your Fight

For me, Ronda is the defiinition of perseverance.

Sephora VIB Sale Shopping List

When Sephora drops their VIB Sale emails on me like this, I immediately know it's about to get dangerous. I can already hear my bank account screaming in fear and my credit cards crying in the corner in a fetal position. I'm so over dramatic. Thankfully I need to get my sister some Christmas presents, so I won't be totally selfish this time around, that knocks a little bit of the guilt off.

Sephora VIB Sale

I have purposely not purchased anything from Sephora since July. Do you have any idea how hard that has been? Can I get a high five for successfully making it through some sort of spending freeze? My body is so ready to press that red checkout button! Let's all press it together when the VIB Sale goes live! But first, let me know what your must haves are!

Related Post: Sephora Wishlist (find more products here!)

Here is what I've got waiting for me in my cart already... so far.

Sephora VIB Sale Must Haves

GlamGlow Gift Sexy Ultimate Anti-Aging Set: The "youth mud" is my favorite of the GlamGlow masks. Since it is so pricey, it's not something I repurchase often at all. This set is beyond worth it because for the normal $69 price of just the mask, you also get the cleanser mini, the clearing mask mini and an applicator brush, you can't lose with this one!

Philosophy Purity Cleansing Wipes: If you've been with me for awhile, you know that I live and die for the Purity cleanser. I recently noticed that they have wipes and I'm so eager to try them out!

Urban Decay Naked Basics: This is what my sister wants for Christmas. I'm so proud. I'm actually shocked that she doesn't want any of the Naked palettes, she's just dying to get her hands on the first Basics.

Urban Decay Naked Basics Double Ended Brush: I noticed this brush existed and figured she could use this too. She wants a bunch of other brushes too but I'm gonna head over to the Morphe Brush store for that. Shhh...

Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder: I personally think this is the best setting powder out there, at least for me it is. It gives me a velvety airbrush finish.

Clinique Turnaround Overnight Revitalizing Moisturizer: This will be my first time using this product. I'm on the hunt for a good overnight moisturizer, and this one seems promising. We'll see!

Rosebud Perfume Co. - Minted Rose Lip Balm: This lip treatment has been sitting in my "loves" forever. I'm finally gonna snatch it up! They call it a cult favorite so of course I need to be on board.

Briogeo Rosarco Milk Replenishing Leave In Conditioning Spray: I have basically the worst hair ever and I'm constantly trying leave in conditioners until I find the perfect one. (Since the evil world discontinued my all time favorite ever one from Herbal Essences ugh). I hope this one does wonders!

Will you be participating in the sale this time around? I would love to know what you've got on your list!

VIB Members can save with code VIB20  November 13th - 19th.
Have fun!!

11 Awesome Podcasts

There are probably at least a gazillion bajillion podcasts out there.  And yes, gazillion bajillion is a real number. Pick anything in the world that you like, anything you may have an interest in - there's a podcast for it! My fiance has always been super into podcasts, I hadn't bothered because I originally thought they would be like a book on tape. Does that reveal how old I really am?

top podcasts

I started realizing what they really were when he began playing them every time we were in the car. If I remember correctly, the first one for me way back when was Bill Burr's Monday Morning Podcast, and since I love him, I got hooked. But then I moved onto other comedians that have podcasts, then YouTubers, reality stars, and on and on and now I can't stop.

If you've been watching my YouTube channel for awhile, you know that Robert and I started a podcast also -but it failed- and we haven't managed to sit back down with it again, yet. But once we do, I'll be back to let you know! In the meantime, I want to share with you the podcasts that I'm currently attached to.

1. The Jenna & Julien Podcast  - Obvi I listen to them. Their show is pretty chill and laid back, they kinda just kick it. Sometimes they'll have a guest on (like other YouTubers, her mom, etc) sometimes they'll have a particular topic like conspiracy theories, or something/someone big in current news, sometimes they'll play a game like celebrity trivia or personality tests. You never know what you're going to be tuning into but you know it's always going to be fun! They also film the podcast so you can watch them here.

2. The Joe Rogan Experience - I don't listen to all of the episodes because they are quite long, but when I do listen, I learn SO much. He has a massive variety of guests - comedians, actors, musicians, authors, fighters, scientists, doctors, etc. I typically like to tune in when he has the scientists and doctors on, that's when I learn things I'd never imagine.

3. Shane and Friends - Shane Dawson gives me the LOLZ so hard. If foul language and crude talk are not your thing, I wouldn't suggest this one. But if you are down with that, this is hilarious and beyond. His co-host is Jesse Buttafuoco (yes, the daughter of infamous Joey - that whole Amy Fisher thing), she is so hysterical, they make such a great team to keep the laughs coming. Their guests are usually other YouTubers but sometimes they have other friends, their moms, D-listers like Tara Reid and Farrah Abraham, etc.

4. Your Moms House - Married comedians, Tom Segura and Christina Pazsitsky! If you recognize her name from back in the 90s, it's because she was on Road Rules. Anyways, this is another laid back and kick it style podcast giving you all the laughs. As they describe it "if you enjoy 7th grade humor"... they really get you in the giggle gut. They also take the podcast on tour and Robert and I were lucky enough to get in on one a couple years ago. I posted about that here

5. Guys We Fucked - To put it simply, this is an "anti-slut shaming podcast" where comedians Corrine Fisher and Krystyna Hutchinson share their stories about all the guys they have sex with. I love this one because it feels like you're just hanging out with your friends!

6. Loveline - I think everyone knows this one. Dr Drew and Mike Catherwood take calls from listeners and offer medical and relationship advice. Sometimes Mike is a little too much for me, like dude where is your chill? But I'm so interested in all the calls and you'd be surprised at what you can learn!

7. Straight Up With Stassi - This is most likely only going to matter to fans of the show Vanderpump Rules... Stassi has her own podcast! Every Thursday you can catch her just shootin' the shit with a guest that will be one of her friends, or family member or cast mate that she's still friends with. I find Stassi intriguing and for some reason I'm super interested in all her drama.

8. Pumped - Another one that's geared to fans of Pump Rules (which comes back Nov 2nd!!!) This podcast is hosted by a few fans that started off just gossiping about the show and the cast. They started inviting cast members to be guests each week and it's like getting the behind the scenes facts on what Bravo chooses to show us! Along any other gossip and details they wanna share! I'm really excited for this podcast to come back when season 4 starts airing.

9. That's Deep Bro - Christina Pazsitsky makes the list again! She hosts her own podcast outside of Your Moms House. This is a much different vibe where she discusses deep topics like depression, grief, self sabotage, mental illness, and much more. Occasionally she will have a guest but for the most part she rides solo on this one.

10. Not Too Deep with Grace - You may know Grace Helbig from her YouTube channel or her show on E! She always has a guest, as it's a hilarious and silly interview style podcast and she also does some sort of popular internet challenge with each guest. Recently she did the Urban Dictionary Challenge with Jenna!

11. Serial - Even if you're not into podcasts, I'm sure you've heard of this one as it was a pretty huge deal. The entire season is based on one topic, season one focused on a murder case that was littered with holes in the story and we're still not sure if Adnan, who was convicted of killing his girlfriend, is guilty or innocent. Season two is supposed to be focused on a Sgt that was held for five years by the Taliban. I saw a rumor that season two starts in November but haven't seen any confirmation at all.

Podcast sites/apps:
Podkicker (android)

And in case you missed it when I mentioned in one of last week's posts, here's a bonus one for you bloggers out there: Ask Pat.  I like that one because each episode is an answer to one question a listener asks. So the episodes are super short and right to the point.

Do you listen to podcasts? If so, what are some of your favorite ones?

A Meetup, A Game, & A Cactus Walk Into A Vlog

Happy Tuesday! I hope you all had a great weekend! As I mentioned in Friday's post, I had a couple of fun things planned for Saturday and I may or may not still be on a high from it.  It's been over 100 degrees here everyday lately and instead of staying inside with some AC, I ventured out into the heat wave.

I got to see Jenna Marbles and Julien again!  I experienced a Dodgers playoff game, and I finally bought  my very first cactus! You may have seen on Instagram that being in Palm Springs this summer really pushed me to develop a new obsession with cacti. If you wanna see how this past weekend went down, check out my newest vlog!

How was your weekend? Are you melting in heat like I am or are you actually getting a crisp fall where you are? Let me know in the comments what your favorite part of the vlog was!

4 Friday Favorites

I hope you all had a great week! This was my first week back at consistent blogging and it was pretty awesome. I had planned out my posts and it was really helpful to be able to stay on top of it all. I'm excited to set aside time this weekend to plan next weeks post too! This week I shared some of my favorite products, favorite YouTubers and celebrated a milestone. To close out the week, I want to share a few things that I'm loving throughout the internet.

ASK PAT PODCAST: This is a great one for those of us here in the blog world. Each episode features a question asked by a listener and Pat provides his advice. The topics range from blogging, internet marketing, audience building, email marketing, etc.

POP ART CARTOON ZOMBIE: I mentioned on Tuesdays post that Nicole Guerriero does incredible Halloween tutorials. Just in time to start costume planning, she uploaded this super colorful and fun cartoon zombie look!

QUIT YOUR JOB TO BLOG: I mean, obvi this would be a fave because, duh. Helene has been really helpful with the webinars she's been offering lately and now she's really got my attention! In Case You Missed It:

What are your plans for the weekend? I'm going (for the second time) to a meetup of Julien Solomita. He's not only the boyfriend of Jenna Marbles, he's a fantastic daily vlogger. He takes editing his vlogs to another level and it totally inspires my editing.  I'm also heading out to a Dodgers playoff game on Saturday night! I'm really excited because I've only been to Dodger Stadium once before when my brother dropped a surprise visit on me. And then Sunday is "support my dude during football" day, while also blog planning.

Have a beautiful weekend!

It's Been A Year

I'm torn today. I feel excited to have reached a milestone but disappointed that I didn't accomplish everything I wanted to before this day arrived. A whole year ago I hit publish on my first YouTube video, which was a "Date Night" look. I had no idea what I was doing but I was having so much fun doing it! And I immediately became addicted. It took my whole life, but I had finally found a hobby that I enjoyed and loved and thought about every moment of every day.

youtube anniversary

Let me tell you the good the bad and the ugly about making YouTube videos. First of all, I absolutely love having a video journal of my life. I think it's going to be so amazing to look back on! Before I get right into the good, I want to explain why I started making videos. At the time, I was really struggling with my anxiety and I wanted to do something extreme and out of my comfort zone. I was convinced that making videos would open me up more and loosen up my crazy nerves. And it did. I started to feel happier and more confident. <- The good! I also made new friends, and that was exciting to feel connected with people in another community outside of the blog world. More good!

But then the bad and ugly started to set in. I started to pick myself apart. Seeing yourself on video can make it way easier to notice things than just looking in the mirror. I began having regrets that I never wore my retainer as a kid because my bottom teeth are so obviously crooked. I was searching for an affordable place to get some Botox because seeing the awful crows feet around my eyes were making me not want to smile anymore. Suddenly, a shit ton of insecurities that I never knew I even had started surfacing at full speed!

So I stopped sitting in front of the camera doing beauty videos and started filming out and about vlogs. Which I soon realized was so much fun! Capturing random every day moments, editing clips to showcase something of a short little movie of my life, I love it!  Unfortunately, I don't upload very often because, well, let's be honest- my life is pretty boring, but I enjoy editing my vlogs to still be exciting to watch.  If you're interested in getting a glimpse of what's on my channel, check out this Channel Trailer that I may or may not have made in celebration of being on YouTube for one whole year!

Although in this past year I didn't grow my channel into what I wanted it to be, and have a notebook full of video ideas and editing details that will probably never see the light of day because ... time. I'm still really happy that I began this journey and continue on it as often as I can. And I'd love for you to come along with me! 3 Best Beauty YouTubers

White Ikea furniture, bright lights, and a candle burning. That's the typical look of a beauty YouTuber's video. But decor is not what we're here for today. Instead, I want to share with you a few of my absolute favorite beauty YouTubers ever! Since I'm only picking a few today, this will actually be the first post in a series of these favorite ladies of mine.

These few that I'm focusing on today have a large range of what they put on their channel. Instead of the repetitive warm smokey eye, they really showcase skill, tips and variety. And beyond that, I absolutely adore their personalities and style and I'm about four million percent positive they'd be my BFF in real life.

best beauty youtbe

Nicole Guerriero was one of the first that I ever watched. And I continue to obsess over her constantly. She has so much variety on her channel, creative and every day makeup looks, kills it with halloween tutorials, knocks it outta the park with hair tutorials, shares her life with fun vlogs, and always goes into depth with tips which is why I find her more helpful that most others that I watch. And she's so silly, she has me laughing with every video she posts.

Also, check out one of her Vlogs

Karissa Pukas is just an angel. She's a total babe, has such a chill vibe to her but sassy when it's needed. She's probably the most honest YTer I've watched, and I respect the hell out of her for never sacrificing her happiness or selling her soul as so many youtubers do. As a bonus, she owns a successful international false lash company! And she has a separate vlog channel that she's been putting a lot of fashion, travel and everyday life on! I love her fashion style and she takes such gorgeous pictures. I could watch her videos for hours, ok maybe I just have a major girl crush on her.

Also, check out her Travel & Style Diary

UPDATE: And then this happened. Just another reason why she's my favorite, she pays attention to her subscribers.

Katy @ LustreLux. She's one of the Ipsy girls and  her skills are on another level, she makes everything so simple because she's so great at describing her tutorials and offering tips and tricks. And oh my goodness I'm in love with her on snapchat. She is hilarious and has the cutest dog ever and their relationship is so funny! "heeeeyyyyyyy. Zoooooooooooooe" definitely follow her for some good laughs.

Also, check out her creepy halloween tutorial

That's enough fierceness for today! It's overwhelming, I know. Who are some of your favorite YouTubers to watch? I can't wait for part two of this so I can share more bombshells with you!

September Favorites

Now that the Halloween candy is out and everyone is already deciding what to dress up as on the 31st, I figured it's time to gather up some of my favorite things lately. Which is a long way of saying, welcome to my first monthly favorites blog post!  I haven't really done a current favorites type of situation since my May Favorites video, which obviously was many months ago.  But I want to start making it an actual monthly thing here on the blog. While my list isn't exactly the longest thing ever, these few things have been getting some serious use lately.

Maybelline Matte and Poreless Foundation.
--when I first tried this a few months ago, I hated it. I thought I liked it and then realized I hated it. But recently it's been all the rage so I decided to pick it up again and now I can't put it down. I absolutely love it. Maybe the difference is in my skincare because I don't know how I hated this before. It's fantastic!

L'oreal EverCreme Nourishing Leave-In.
--this is another one that I stuffed away months ago but for unknown reasons. But I ran out of whatever I was using and desperately grabbed this from the back of shelf.  Any of you curly/frizzy hair friends know what desperate means when you need a leave-in conditioner. I love the smell and most importantly it makes my fried hair so soft!

ColourPop Ultra Matte in Solow.
--when these released I snatched up three of them to try out. I got Mars, Lychee and my all time fave lip color Solow. To be honest, I haven't even worn Mars and Lychee yet. But I swipe Solow on every time I reach for a lip color and I'm always satisfied.

Makeup Geek Eyeshadows//Mango Tango & Cosmopolitan.
--I've raved about MUG shadows before and I probably always will. As seen in my "Get Ready With Me in Palm Springs" video, these two colors go beautifully together. I've been putting a little bit of them in my crease almost daily. It's a nice simple warm touch.

Adidas Superstars (shell toes!).
--I can't count how many pairs of shelltoes I've had since middle school, and multiple colors. But I do know that it's been a few years since I restocked on a pair. Until this spring. I got the good ol' classics and I've had my feet in them all summer long. They literally go with every outfit possible. Jeans, leggings, sweatpants, a day dress, anything! And they're made with a comfy ortho insole now so it's almost like walking on clouds.

Victoria's Secret PJ's.
--when it's 100 degrees every day and night, you want something loose and light to lounge around in. I've been practically living in this satin cami and short set. And in case you're interested, they're currently on clearance!

--Love Myself/Hailee Steinfeld is catchy AF
--Here/Alessia Cara. legit straight up talent. like a fresh mix of Fiona Apple, Adele and Alicia Keys.
--Same Old Love/Selena Gomez. girl is killing it lately, the beat on this one is so feel good.

Let me know in the comments what some of your recent favorite things are! And I'll see you here again tomorrow with a list of my favorite beauty YouTubers!

What I Got at ULTA + Giveaway!

Guess who just made their first online Ulta purchase? This girl. I always go into the store since it's just down the street from me, although I don't know why I bother because their shelves are never stocked. I saw a post on Instagram this morning for a Becca gift set that was only valid for a few hours. And what does someone with a shopping addiction do when something they love says "free with $50 purchase"? They run as fast as they can to spend fifty dollars that they don't have. "Help me, I'm poor".

So of course with it being my first time ordering through their site, I have to come running over here to share with you what I got! Honestly, it's really nothing too fabulous. I was trying not to splurge and really just wanted to get to the $50 mark with some basics. And everything in the order is stuff that's all new to me, which is really exciting! Let me know if you've used any of these products and how you like them.

ulta haul

1. Mario Badescu Acne Facial Cleanser - I always hear great things about this brand and it's super affordable. I'm excited to see how this works with my skin.

2. CoverGirl Flamed Out Mascara - I'm always looking for new mascaras because the best are always at the drugstore. It's got mixed reviews but I'm willing to give it a shot because it's called "flamed out" which sounds fierce and exciting and I'm a sucker for marketing.

3. Maybelline Brow Drama - I have been dying to try this! I don't know what took me so long, but I'm out of my Benefit Gimme Brow so I'm due for a change, and I see so  many people using this.

4. NYX Tinted Brow Mascara - In case I hate the Maybelline one, I decided to snatch up this one too because I hear lots of great things about it.

5. Becca 4 piece Gift Set - (out of stock) The star of the show!! I saw it posted on @trendmood1 and got so excited because OPAL is my favorite highlighter so of course I'd like some extra. And the other three products are new to me! Ever-Matte Poreless Priming Perfector, Pressed Bronzing Skin Perfector, Poured Shimmering Skin Perfector.

6. CoverGirl Clump Crusher Extensions - I've purchased the Clump Crusher a few times and love it. But I didn't even know there was an extensions version. And I'm the worst at applying false lashes, so of course I want 200% more length and volume! (where do they get these percentages?!)

7. CoverGirl Professional Loose Powder - I'm running out of my Laura Mercier and not quite ready to drop almost forty bucks on a new one so I'm willing to give this one a try because it says "professional" in the title. I told you, I'm a sucker. I hope it's good!

8. Macadamia Professional Oil Spray - My reasons for choosing this are simple. I've tried one Macadamia product before and loved it. This was sitting in my favorites for a long time. It says "professional" in the title.

And ironically, I'm currently part of a $200 ULTA GIFT CARD GIVEAWAY! [insert hands in the air emoji!] Click that link to enter and let me know down in the comments what you would get from Ulta if you win! Good luck to anyone that enters!

Are Weekend Recap Posts Still A Thing?

palm springs

Quite honestly, I think it's been well over a year since I've done a weekend recap post. And I think I'm going to start doing them again. For a long time, the fiance and I were doing absolutely nothing on the weekends, mostly because he was working. Now we've been doing so much more lately and the only place it ever gets documented is on Snapchat. Which, by the way you should totally follow me there @mskellylouise. This weekend I took a chance and said yes to a concert invite of someone I had never even heard of before; Lee Brice and Clare Dunn. They were both really great and now I'm totally a fan. Lee Brice was like really really good, such a great show. Oh and Ashton Kutcher was there but I had no idea.

On Saturday evening we hopped into an Uber and headed to Downtown LA. The concert was at Club Nokia so we stopped in this cool place called Tom's Urban and had a couple drinks before the show started. I've never seen a Fireball drink on a menu before and this place had one that was mixed with strawberry liquor and I was all over it and it was dangerously scrumptious. I immediately knew this night was gonna be a little too boozy. And it was. Once our friends arrived, we had another round and a shot of Fireball. Uh ohhh... And then at the concert it was just drinks on drinks on drinks. As you can imagine most of the details of the night are a blur. But I do remember having a blast to that Lee guy. After the show was over we took a stroll around looking for another place to have more drinks. Because we clearly needed them. I have no idea what the name of the place was that we went into, but we didn't last long because some people were a little too drunky mcdrunkerson so we all slipped into our Ubers and abruptly ended the night.

palm springs, travel

You're probably thinking, "Kelly, that's really not much of a weekend update at all". I agree, but I'm rusty at this. Forgive me? You're also probably wondering what does that little cactus picture have to do with a country concert? Well, before going out I managed to upload a video to my YouTube channel. For the first time in two months! I spent Friday night and all day Saturday editing it, which is why my recap is really only for Saturday night. Last weekend we were in Palm Springs again for Labor Day weekend, so in the spirit of a weekend recap post, I present to you the video of last weekend!

Palm Springs is such a cool place. We love renting a house, raiding the grocery store, and just staying in the pool all day and into the night. This time we decided to clean ourselves up and head out to their downtown area and it was a ton of fun. We ate dinner at LuLu and had the best seat in the house for people watching. Then we stopped at the Riviera hotel and sat outside for a few drinks. When we got back to the house, right back in the pool we went!

And then I realized this is really just a post about being drunk all the time. Oops! Oh and I didn't take my camera out with me to the concert because I was afraid of it getting lost or ruined. It was a good adult decision to leave it at home.

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend too!

5 Current Beauty Favorites

Whoa whoa where am I? I'm so out of the loop, again. I barely even Instagram anymore, like who even am I?  Now, while I'm here to share some of my new fave beauty items, I might as well share a little update too. Like how right now I'm stretched out on the couch with my iTunes on shuffle and Boyz II Men On Bended Knee is blasting in my ears and I'm having a ton of middle school nostalgia. I'm seeing myself in my room with the cassette single singing at the top of my lungs, arms flailing around because this song gives you all the feels even as a boy crazy 7th grade girl. And then I flip it over for the b-side track.

So that's what's happening in my life right now. In the bigger picture, well, I'll save it for a real update post but I got into a really negative place because I was drowning my head with everything I want from this blog and my YouTube channel but don't have the time I wish I did and it started to make me hate things, like important things, like my job. And that's not a good place to be so I chose to back away from my blog and channel so I could refocus on my work and my general life because well, the reality is that those are what I need to care most about right now. I know I know, the the age old excuse "I don't have time", but it's true. And the time that I could have, I prefer to be spending it with Robert since we really didn't get much at all in the past year. Like, at all. But hopefully next year will be different, wink wink.  It's so hard to concentrate when I'm hearing Wanye belting out "I'm down on my knees begging you please come hooommmmmmeeeee"...

You know what's funny, all this middle school nostalgia in my ears while writing a beauty post has me wondering, did I even wear makeup back then. I really don't remember and all my photos are back home at my moms house. It was like 20 years ago (not even a joke) so it's really hard to remember. Whatevs though, I know the kids are wearing it now and it's back to school time so.... maybe this will help them out. Which by the way, MY SISTER STARTS HIGH SCHOOL TOMORROW!!!!(9/2). WHAT EVEN. What is time? What is life? How did she get to 9th grade so fast? I can't believe this. But I do believe she'll be all up in the interests of makeup, I mean she already kills it with the winged liner so... let's do this!

favorite beauty products

1. Philosophy Purity Face Wash  - I keep repurchasing this because it's perfect. It's an all in one product, nothing like convenience! Being a makeup remover, cleanser, toner and it hydrates, that's about as simple as it gets when you're 99% asleep and really need to wash up before crawling into bed. |buy PURITY here|

2. It Cosmetics CC+ Your Skin But Better - A while back I bought the little travel size of this to try it out, totally forgot about it and then came across it in my drawers recently. And then I fell in love. The end. No but really, this is so good. It covers everything, evens out my skin, feels super light on my face all day and so basically it's perfect for getting ready at 6am.  |CC+ @ Ulta|

3. Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer - I've struggled a lot with concealers and I know this one is a hit or miss across the reviews. But I stand by it as my hands down favorite ever. Basically everything creases on my whole face because I'm an old botox needing wrinkly mess, but this creases the least. Like basically not at all. |buy NSC here|

4. Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder - This is another product that I bought in the trial size, because I wasn't sure if the hype was legit. Let's just get right to the point. I will forever buy this. FOR.EV.ER. It gives me a velvet like airbrushed finish, it's like FaceTune in powder form. |buy LM here|

5. NYX Powder Blush - This may be shocking, but this is my first and only NYX blush (the color in the photo is way off  #lightingproblems). I don't know why I never bought these before but wow! So simply beautiful and very pigmented. The color I have is "pinched". |buy NYX here|

Oh look, this could also be called my current makeup routine. Because other than a little bit of brow pencil and mascara, this is it! I'm basic AF and I'm loving it.

What are your current beauty faves? If you've tried any of these products, let me know if you like them or hate them!

bye friends!
